Cold Wax

In early 2022, I became very interested in cold wax and oil painting. Initially, I really didn’t even know what is was. I had not painted in a few years, but I will always be drawn to beeswax. Cold wax medium is pure beeswax suspended in a solvent. It is mixed with oil paint for use. This technique allows for a great deal of freedom as well as creativity. Cold wax painting is mostly done with an art scraper or with a palette knife. Occasionally I will use a brush. Once paint layers are build up, the surface can be modified using both subtractive and reductive techniques. While the cold wax oil process can be a little drawn out, the process is very forgiving and very exciting.
